Style Fashion Week Los Angeles came and left – leaving behind 7 days of sexy, fiery, glamourous, creativity and couture genius for those that got to attend and experience it firsthand. If you didn’t, then here is your chance to come along as if you were part of ‘the crew’ for that un-edited/ unfiltered experience of exclusive access to everything that happens at a fashion show. From the organized chaos of backstage, the models envious looks by Privé products, and the designer’s sweat, blood and tears come alive to walk the runway for the season’s debut.

What’s better than front row access?…Backstage Access. Come backstage with Smart is Sexy as if you’ve never missed a thing.

Smart is Sexy teamed up with Privé Products, the official sponsor of SFW Los Angeles for 7 days, 27 shows, legs for days, couture genius, killer vibes…but none of this comes together if the hair falls flat. Privé products and their runway team are an industry secret with what they call their ‘Concept Verte’. Creating such a simple concept of caring for your hair without sacrificing performance is one Smart is Sexy can get behind but even better when we can see it first hand on and off the runway at Style Fashion Week Los Angeles with Privé Products.

Leading stylist of the industry, Laurent Dufourg is behind any high fashion look on or off the runway. His reputation is strongly reflected by a prestigious clientele within the Industry and fashion scene. You can even see him so discretely on an episode of America’s Next Top Model as they film behind a runway show. Laurent needless to say, like most professionals of importance needs no introduction in the industry of High Fashion, and well informed people already know this. Amongst the many reasons he leads the industry, one of my favorites, is his Smart is Sexy contribution to re-inventing the approach to the products we reach, when we want hair that looks just as good as we do on any occasion- runway, to school picture to job interview, to friends dinner party. Prive formule aux herbes, is exactly how it sounds = FRENCH. Damn frenchies. Oh those sassy, sexy French! It’s true, something about the French just keep us coming back. Tapping into Laurent’s French heritage, he personally developed selected herbal blends that actually provides benefits to your hair lasting way beyond any photo shoot, runway show or important event. Privé Products have a smart concept and a sexy delivery. Luxurious hair without the parabens and sulfates- et voila! You’re combining the idea of styling and caring for your hair all at once- and why can’t these two concepts be synonymous instead of opposing ideals?

Style Fashion Week

A lot of the models looks were done with Privé dry shampoo. Finishing touch spray, finishing oil and crazy masterful techniques. No model as they had their hair styled back to back for each show had any product buildup. Laurent educated his stylist on how to use the products to achieve high-end looks without the normal wear and tear that you would have elsewhere. A fantastic experience of elegance with an edge!

Over 30 different shows, 67 stylists, and models going in and out of hair and makeup for an average of 2 looks per night for designers like Walter Mendez, Padram Couture, D’AQUA Swim, Kinsman Swimwear, Andre Soriano and Michael Costello, among many others. How much product is that? How much time do the hair and makeup stylists get? How much time does the model have to change clothes? Is it happening all at the same time? And Yes, the answer to the last one is Yes. That is why runway selects the best of the best to execute the final looks. They could be creating the looks in any condition. Generally, before each show, a simple print-out is tossed around with basic information of how many models will be walking for which designer, to theme of the designer’s model looks and look examples for the stylist, make-up artists to prep beforehand. As the models line up in order, completely dressed (heels on even if they are waaay bigger than your feet or super tiny…they are on!), hair and make-up complete, generally the hair team stands alongside the models before they are cued to walk doing any last minute touches before the big reveal to the world what a designer has spent months crafting.

Simple things are noticed backstage, like when you catch the stylist using the same products on their own hair as well as the models hair in between shows on these 20 hour days, you can testify that believing in the products is an understatement. And that my friend, you only know if you were there, is what is most often referred to as….industry secrets.

  1. Awesome! I feel like I’m there. I like how the pictures are very lifestyle and not photoshoped. The article makes working a runway seem fun! Since I didn’t get invited it was cool to see and read Smart is Sexy!

  2. Interesting spin on the story angle…wouldn’t have thought to see what’s smart in a fashion show, would’ve just consider it all sexy.

  3. You are very active in the modeling world aren’t you? I like following you on instagram 🙂

  4. where do I find those products? Prive Products I am assuming aren’t sold at CVS?

  5. The anazing photos, and article, are very illuminating to the goings-on behind the scenes at a show. Fabulous!!!

  6. Love Love Love the post. Such fun to watch the backstage vitality. It looks that the Prive’ nailed the show with their team work and product quality. Are the products sold in stores? They are very creative otherwise how so much and so fast could be accomplished?
